Teacher Grant Awards 2008-2009

The Ironia PTA is proud to announce the 2008-2009 Ironia PTA Grant Award Recipients! Thank you to all Applicants for taking the time to write and submit a grant proposal. We appreciate your continued dedication to our children.

Ms. Wysoczanski: Leapfrog Tag School Readers - $395

  • 4 Tag School Readers, 4 Storybooks, 6 titles of the Phonemic Awareness Series, 4 headsets, and the LeapFrog School Connect application
  • Provides multi-sensory reading experiences through a pen and a book
  • Supports differentiated learning with small groups, partner, and individual implementation

 

Mrs. Wood (for the entire Fourth Grade): Storyworks Magazine Subscription - $650

  • 6 monthly issues (individual copies for each student) of the number one Language Arts Magazine in America.
  • Showcases fiction, non-fiction, poetry and plays, as well as student written book reviews.
  • Includes writing activities, grammar activities, vocabulary builders, and test taking tips.
  • Will provide enrichment of the newly implemented Lucy Calkinís writing program.

 

Mrs. Benjamin: Enhancing Phonemic Awareness in Literacy Centers - Leap Pad System - $675

  • 18 interactive books (3 of each title), 8 LeapPad PLTS, 8 headsets
  • Allows students to independently practice pre-reading skills, motivating them through interactive activities with stories of interest.
  • Supports differentiated learning with small groups, partner, and individual implementation

 

Ms. Sandt and Ms. Sheppard: Learning Magnified - Using a Document Camera to View the Process of Learning - $749

  • SMART Document Camera
  • Similar to an overhead projector but allows any object (2D or 3D) to be placed on the platform and viewed in a more colorful, interactive, real-time, and earth friendly manner
  • Document camera can be used across all areas of the curriculum

 

Miss Brembs, Miss DePeri, and Mrs. Pace: Learning Magnified - Using a Document Camera to View the Process of Learning - $1,498

  • Two SMART Document Cameras, to be shared in the fifth grade
  • Similar to an overhead projector but allows any object (2D or 3D) to be placed on the platform and viewed in a more colorful, interactive, real-time, and earth friendly manner
  • Document camera can be used across all areas of the curriculum

 

Mrs. Rosenblatt and Mr. Cervona: Readerís Theater Kit -$852.50

  • Reader's Theater Kit of folktales, Myths, and Legends includes 246 scripts (6 copies each of 7 titles and 12 copies each of 17 titles) and specific Teacher Guides for each title.
  • Will expose students to various genres, while reinforcing story elements and developing reading capabilities
  • Allows for a different literacy experience - encouraging creative expression and performance, building confidence among peers.

Ms. Wysoczanski: "Is that your final answer?" Senteo Interactive Response System - $883

  • Senteo responders serve as personal clickers allowing students to respond to questions asked on the SmartBoard.
  • Allows students to answer confidentially, yet tracks student assessment data in a teacher-controlled grade book for individual student assessment
  • Will increase interaction in the classroom and provide creativity and enrichment of lessons
  • Includes 24 responders with a training workshop at our building

Ms. Notte: Enhancing Classroom Performance Using an FM System - $1,000

  • Front Row Pro Audio System
  • Ensures all students hear lessons loudly and clearly
  • Allows students to utilize the system to help them project and feel more confident in oral presentations

Miss Brembs: "WeDo Robotics" LEGO System - $1,000

  • An easy to use introduction to robotics, enhancing the fifth grade science unit of study - Motors
  • Provides creativity and enrichment of lessons, students build LEGO models featuring working motors and sensors and then program their models using LEGO software.
  • Includes an activity pack with 4 themes ñ Amazing Mechanisms, Wild Animals, Play Soccer, and Adventure Stories.

Mrs. Murphy and Mrs. Smallwood: Literature Links to Enhance the Lucy Calkinís Units of Study for Primary Writing Program - $1,000

  • The Randolph School District has adopted the Lucy Calkin's Units of Study for Primary Writing Program to supplement the current Trophies Reading Program.
  • The literature links are used to enhance the program which encourages students to look closely at the writing of published authors to learn ways to structure their own writing and develop its meaning.
  • Includes 5 sets of 33 individual titles to be utilized across all of the second grade classes.
